The Maricopa County Assessor has recently replaced its hand-drafted parcel maps and converted to an autoCAD system. All Maricopa County parcel maps are now digitally produced and maintained. These new digital maps are referred to at the Maricopa County Assessor's office as "PLOT" files or "PLOTS", as they are "plotted" (or printed) from corresponding CAD-map files in the County's digital system.

The plot files are then converted by DISC to common, computer-readable TIFF images. These maps SUPERCEDE the previous Book & Map format, which are now obsolete for parcel-identification purposes. Included at the root level of each of the DISC Assessor Map CD's is a Microsoft EXCEL spreadsheet named GRID LOCATOR.XLS that includes reference to the old maps in the Book & Map format.

To locate parcels in the DISC Assessor Map CD's:

1. Disregard, for now, the Book & Map number. Instead, each of the maps in these CD's shows a reference "grid" in the upper left corner. Also, a file named "GRID.TIF" is included at the root level of each of these CD's. It is a TIFF image of the Maricopa County grid. Each TOWNSHIP in Maricopa County is assigned a "grid number".

2. Determine in which Township AND Section your property lies. Locate the Township on the GRID.TIF file and note its grid number.

3. On the CD, open the folder corresponding to the grid number. Each grid folder contains 36 sub-folders corresponding to the Section number in that Township.

4. Open the sub-folder corresponding to the Section in which your parcel lies.

5. The maps in these CD's are named according to GRID, SECTION and QUARTER QUARTER. In addition, for condominiums, each map will depict only one floor of a condominium, with upper floors shown on additional maps.

FOR EXAMPLE, see map 806130204.tif (Grid 806 being Township 3N 3E). This map shows the SE qtr of the NW qtr of Section 13:

(Note that the quarters and quarter/quarters are numbered in a counter-clockwise fashion starting with the NE qtr being 01, NW being 02, SW being 03 and SE being 04.)

Further, this particular map includes a condominium known as INDIAN BEND VILLA CONDOMINIUM. This condominium contains units located on an upper floor. That upper floor alone is shown on a sub-map (see the 02 suffix on the filename):
